rocks on glass or ??? 8 Months, 1 Week ago
How do people place their rocks - on the glass, on top of the sand or using somthing else to keep the sharp hard bits away from the fragile hard bits (glass). if something else does this affect any sand diggers

TIA

generally i use one of two methods
a) put big blobs of silicone on the parts of the rock which meet the glass
or b) place the rocks on perspex which i lay on the bottom of the tank... dosent affect sand diggers at all and prevents flooding of your house

My sand is already in so that could kaput the perspex route. Do you need to let the silicone dry and if so will this affect the rock being longer out of water.
What about building up do you keep it away from the back of the tank

Hy,
You can built it up against the back.It does no harm.If you have a background its even safer.A few trops of Silikon stabilise the built ups.Regards,Tim

perspex route not necessarily out, just slide it away from an area you want to have rock work in and then place on rock then gently replace sand...as for stacking depends on how solid your base is, if your unsure silicone it together and then place in the tank or if using tech7 silicone it can be can be done in the tank as it will set in water unlike most silicones or use d&d aquarium expoxy which works in and out of water

Yeah id put a sheet of perspex on the bottom just for piece of mind.... dont want water flowing around my house

Also if you put rock on top of sand, if you have fish that like to dig around sand etc if the rock is on the sand they can dig in and unsettle the rock, so by sticking the rock to the bottom of ur tank then put the sand back in causing no problems or moving rock.......
