Fluval FX5 Filter (Big Fella) 2 Years, 5 Months ago
Have been using the Fx5 for about 2 months now seems to be working excellently, Anyone any experience of these i'm using filter wool EHFISUBSTRAT effimech and some amonia remover,

This is my first time using an external filter, i used a mix of four internal's fluval 3 and 4's, have removed two internal's and left two in running with fx5.

do ou reckon the filter would be up to speed to remove the remaining internal filters.

All fish are as happy as ever seen

Thanks in advance

Always good to have more than one filter on your tank, especially an internal/external combination. Leave them running side by side for best results and alternate cleaning.

Do you reckon the external filter media is ok?

What I would Suggest is using your external specifically for biological filtration mostly, ie pack it with ceramic rings, sponge and any biologically active media you can accommadate. Then just pack one of your internals full of filter floss and use that for mechanical filtration, but your media seems fine at the minute. However I would remove the 'ammonia removing' media unless you are having a problem, in which case a Polyfilter should be used for the best results.
