I would suggest Elite Mini Submersible Aquarium Heater.

Howdy, I use a Visi-therm 25W in a 70l tank with fancy goldfish to keep the chill off the water. I just measured it and it is just hair over 7inches. However, at 25watts to keep the water at about 22 degrees I have to set it to 26 degrees on the thermostat and I figure it might be running the heater a little hard. So you might want to consider something with more power that 25W to heat 50l effectively.

thanks tanks
ideal temp of water will have to be aprox 24-26 so that might be a bit overworked. tank is aprox 50-60 ltrs but with background will be 45 ltrs and used for poss. fry unless i feel i could get away with Lake Tanganyikan Cichlids Shell dwellers . but that will involve a travel to get some.
thanks again

The elite 25w is thinner than the standard heaters. Definitely thinner than the vistotherm. I think the only place I have seen the Elite mini heater is Petstop Blanchardstown, but I could be wrong. Phone around.

I use an Elite 25W to heat my water changes. It makes a low "buzzing' noise and interferes with the tv when it clicks on,maybe I just have a faulty one?Hence I NEVER put my hand in bucket when heater plugged in!!!The wiring in my house is very bizzare though.
I use 50W heaters in tanks of about 50ltrs.I'm afraid I don't have any to measure though.

DAce I had forgotten you told me that about your one. I have three I think and they are all fine and definitely do not buzz. It might be better to replace than to reply on memory regarding putting your hand in the water.
Just in case.
