Have a Rio 400 and I'm adding an Eheim wet/dry canister thermo filter in addition to the standard Juwel filter. I have the Eheim filter media, whatever it's called, and as expected Eheim say you must use their media which is ceramic, I think.

Now, have a few litres of Siporax, which I'm going to put into the Juwel filter instead of a couple of the blue sponges. I'm wondering would there be any issues replacing a couple of litres of the Eheim media with a couple litres of Siporax (In addition to the few litres in the Juwel filter)? I'm 99% sure there shouldn't be, and the Siporax should be better biologically. Or would it? Have I enough biological filtration going on and am I wasting my time with the extra Siporax?

Siporax claim that 1 litre Siporax = 34 litres ceramic. Sounds a bit too good....

Eheim want to flog their filter material. Overpriced if you ask me. Don't see any problems with Siporax. It's good stuff. If your Eheim comes with filtermaterial already in it I wouldn't change it either
I'd leave the blue filter pads in the Jewel internal.
What are you planning to put in that tank to require all that filtrations?

Siporax will turn nitrate in to a harmless gas and it will evaporate from your tank. The idea is never to clean the Siporax a sanerobic bacteria is needed to complete the cycle. Keep the sponges with it. Iffy,ike is bringing over some fro me from Wales next week. Going to fill Juwel internal with Siporax and leave external with sponges/Siporax and polishers.

I Had up to recently an eheim wet dry filter, is saves you making up a trickle filter in your hood, it worked great for about 9 months, before the moving parts started to stop moving!!!! When it did work it made a horrible gurgling nose, I once had guest over for dinner and the tank is in the kitchen& dinning area, just finally through it out and put a normal ehiem filter in, also when it starts to stop working it produces a fine mist of air into the tank, the fish dont seem to be effect i.e.gas bubble disease
when the moving parts that expels the water ever minute stop working the normal pump still works so acts as a normal filter, mu next external filter will not be either an eheim wet dry or traditional;, but a pond filter, is the only way to keep an african tank clean, if you dont siphon the bottom

Both filters are not setup yet so I'm wondering which way would be the best. I have the Eheim media as well as 10 litres of Siporax and the Juwel sponges for the internal filter. I could use a combination of the Siporax and Eheim ceramic in the canister filter and then just the sponges and/or Siporax in the Juwel internal (maybe leave out one or two sponges in the Juwel).

I won't need huge amounts of filtration, setting up a Tang tank, but I figure the extra filtration won't hurt....

Anthony I have a terrible flatulence problem, went to the doctor and he prescribed me carbon biscuits, do you think I will expel harmless gas if I Jew siporx.
