Using sand as oppose to gravel? 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hi All,
I notice a lot of beautiful tanks on Youtube, etc are using sand as oppose to gravel. Is this ideal for a tropical setup? Is it easier to keep clean or more hassle? Is sand available in all pet shops? Just wondering, I'm into my second year keeping a 60 litre tank and have gravel but think the sand looks a lot nicer but just wondering the pro's and con's.
Off the record somewhat!, I came across these vids on Youtube, probably one of the nicest tanks I've seen if anybody is interested. Tank has Angels, Discus, Rummy Nose Tetra's, Cory's, etc. Worth a look

hi there. in my first tank i used gravel, this time round i opted for aquarium sand and im delighted with it. so far im finding it easier to keep clean compared to the gravel and i think its a better choice of substrate if you have corys or loaches. it depends on what type of look you want of course but i did find with gravel that dirt got down into it and with the sand it sits on top, so its easier to vacuum it up. aquarium sand is more expensive than play sand but i think its worth it. my water doesnt get cloudy and it seems to be doing a good job in keeping the plants held down. lovely colour too. best of luck

hi. the bags are 25kg, price i cant remember, but i got it in AV. i know it wasnt crazy expensive. I only used 3 bags in a 850L tank and its plenty deep for my plants which are growing like mad.
