Hey folks. I have just released a guppy fry from a breeder(yesterday). There is plenty of cover, hence a few platy fry in the wilderness also. Anyway all of the communnity fish leave the little guy alone except for a big swordtail. There is a bit of a frenzy at feeding and the poor little fellow isnt getting a look in(partly because the sword runs him).
Anyway, I know there must be small organisms that the smaller platy fry are living on, but will he(the guppy) be small enough to sustain himself on the same organisms? I tried to put food in more than one place to let it sink(freexe dried brine shrimp) but still it was all gobbled by the others. There are still a few more guppy fry in the breeder-I let this one out because he was the biggest and I wanted to see he was big enough to hold his own.
Well there I go-a big long ramble...... Your input is as always appreciated.

The best way i have found to feed fry in this situation is to use an old uptake of an undergravel filter and drop the food into this it will slide down to a specified spot and will probably allow your fry to get more food than they are already getting, ps try live brineshrimp or infurosia easy to cultivate and a small drop of them will put hundreds in the tank enough for all fish to get their share

Just an update. The guppy fry is doing ok. Well, int the sense that he hasnt been eaten. The only one who reckons hes bite size is the sword tail. The zebra danios just chase him because he is smaller. But feeding is still difficult. He is still making the effort to come up but the others still gobble it all up on him! I do not have an old uplift tube handy....

I would just make sure you add a couple of pinches of finely crushed flake when feeding. Possibly in a little water beforehand so it will sink.

Then when the frenzy is going on at the surface tip in the water with the crushed flake. The bigger fish will likely ignore the really small bits which should give your fry a chance.

Would powdered food be possibly too small? He is almost the size of a smallish neon

the small food doesn't have to be necessarily powedered. Small pieces of flake that the other fish would not look twice at is all you need...if you have a big tank I'd always feed on one side for the big fish and drop the fine food on the other side of the tank, at least that way the fry can search for the food and you know its there for them to eat.

THE GUPPY FRY HAS BEEN FED! The little guy has had two big bellies two days running. I soaked the food in water and then sucked it up using a sea monkeys tool I believe. I sprinkled a small amount of flakes on one side of the tank to attract the bigger ones away from him and squirted the food down to him.
The swordtail is starting to leave him be a hell of a lot more . His confidence has grown already and he is now swimming in the open a lot more. I think he has even grown a bit in the last few days.
