Hi guys
i have a pond with koi and i was wondering if anybody has any experience in breeding them. how you know each one is a male or female? any info, doesnt matter how small, will be of great help.

ps. I bought a female that holds eggs, that i was told, so if she does i'll like to give it a go at breeding some koi.

Hi theyre easy to breed, when we bring in large koi, 18"+ they always spawn after a few days of arriving!!! Males are slender, females grow bigger and are plumper, males get breeding tubercles (raised bumps on their gill plates and pectoral fins), during the summer you will often see the males chase the females and bite/nudge them, foreplay!!!!
You can get spawning mops, or we use filter brushes, to catch the eggs as they are egg scatterers,(no parental) care like most cyprinids.

i knew that you'll answer this. cheers for the info. they breed like goldfish, i put 2 mops in the pond already by the description you give me i have 2 females with big plump bodies and few goldfish ones so now i'm just waiting and see what will happen. i'll keep you informed. cheers
