Arowanas and other monster fishes 5 Months, 1 Week ago
Hi ITFS, here's my first post. I'm Ian and based in Dublin 4. I used to be based in Asia (Philippines) and I still have 34in Silver Arowana in a 6ft tank that my mother is taking care for me. I used to own more than 30 tanks of different fresh water fishes.

To see my previous fishes see the link:

www.arofanatics.com/members/ian

i also founded and started an online fishkeeping club:

www.mypalhs.com/

my handle there is IanR.

I was wondering if any members/forumers know of anyone keeping arowanas here in Dublin? is there Asian Arowanas around?

Thanks to all!
Ian

Hi Ian

Welcome to the forum. You have some great photos there. I don't keep arowana or know anyone that does, but I am sure someone here must.

Hi Ian,

A 34 inch silver must be a sight to see! You have some stunning fish in your photos.

Unfortunately, you don't really see many Arowanas being kept in Ireland.
Asian Arowanas are CITES restricted & very difficult to get, I don't know of any in the republic but there are people that keep them in Northern Ireland.
I would snap one up myself if I had the opportunity.

The shops occasionally have silver Arowanas for sale & Aquatic village in Brittas have a fine 20 inch fish in their display tank.

The only member on here that I'm aware of that keeps an Arowana is 'didhino' who has an 8 inch silver, I'm sure there must be other Arowana keepers lurking though.

Cheers,
Patrick.

Thanks guys for the very warm welcome. I know I'll be at home here. about a year ago I saw a lone silver arowana for sale in Wackers in Parnel Dublin 1 - I actually came up to Brittas to talk to the manager and I actually got a job offer but i chose another job based in Citywest instead. I would have liked working in a hyper petstore. As soon as we get transferred to a permanent house my project would be another silver arowana comm tank. Hopefully I get good source of 6ft tanks here in ITFS. I'll post new pictures soon.

Hello Ian,
You're most welcome to our Forum. Sadly, due to my dismally slow connection speed I cannot access your photos but hopefully will be able to see them soon...

I remember seeing my first Arowanas in a shop in London in the early seventies (but it may have been the late sixties, much of that time had sort of become 'blurred' in the memory) - but I do recall how impressed I was with them.

Do you plan any further tanks to bring you back to your previous level of tanks/fish?

HI Drew, nice to hear from you. I wasnt able to come by again and its been a year since I worked for AOL in Citywest. I've worked in computer software but my passion is with the fishkeeping hobby. It had helped me for 10 years get rid of the stress! I will most definitely call over again to see how you guys are doing and perhaps get some stuff when I start with my long overdue project. I know you guys are looking into chipped arowanas last time we talked. Hope things are well.

Hi tony,
good tip on santry forest. Looks like we have no restrictions to trade asian aros here same as in UK and Canada. 450 is quite a lot! But considering the scarcity...

Thanks guys!
