I thought i would answer this as my first post.. be gentle if you dont agree..

For Discus IMO dont do anything with meds unless you have to.. meds that are used on a regular basis end up being useless in the long run as diseases/strains can become immune.

I would recommend patience and observation as the best means of assessing whether you need to medicate. something im still learning

look forward to talking to you all..

I would entirely agree in general about using meds only when needed, but with worming I would make an exception. You worm dogs regularly whether you know they have worms or not. I do not keep discus and know little about them, but they seem more prone to worms than other fish, so if they were mine I would worm them - but as I say I don't keep them and it's just my opinion.

I keep a lot of corys and worm all wild caught imports.

HI.I have discus and i use "wormer plus" that i ordered of net,it kills all flukes tapeworms and parasites.I think is better to use wormer on discus once every 2-3 months,it's better to prevent them then let them catch some stuff:-/

Hi Magic,

worming Discus wont kill all flukes and parasites. what it does is give the fish time to get its immune system back up in top performance.

most if not all discus have flukes. think of discus diseases as a suitcase. when the fish is in good health they can keep it closed and in check.

once they become stressed the suitcase opens and the fish can succumb to one of its carrier diseases. now thats not to say Discus carry everything.. but flukes is something it will usually have.

on the worming topic, there are lots of reading on to worm or not to worm. if you introduce worms be it through live food or snails, them worm, but IMO you should never need to worm until you have to..
