here's the the thing..not long and why? those fish get megga big.did the shop you bought it from not inform you at the point of purchase...no point in buying a tank buster unless you have the space longtime.people buying fish for a 180 and asking how long it is gonna spend in that kinda environvment to be honest are the kinda person who should not buy those kind of fish inb the first place.if you have to ask...imho..then you need to think about why you keep fish in the first place.too many places selling tank busteres to people without thinking about the concequences.a 180 litre t ank,it is rediculous no matter what.those fish grow really quick and it is doubtfull you will ever be able to care for it unless you are a public aquarium.end of.

Hi Gavin,

Welcome back

Unless I am mistaken, Iceman68 was wondering about getting an arowana but doesn't own one yet ... Maybe he is looking at various ideas to stock his 180l tank.
I would definitely advise smaller fish critters, a Rio180 is not that big!

I would agree with Valerie on this. i would also be the first to admit you will get a lot of bad advice on what you can and can't keep in north east.

but a valid questiion was asked how long does it take for arowana to reach the max size it is a question that should be asked about a lot of fish. and i am sure Gavin( nice to see you )and serratus would agree this the type of question people should ask when considering purchasing any fish.

Good to see people asking before buying, hey we've all had at least one stupid impulse buy, but arowana and a 180 no no no they can grow up to 39"!!!! you'd want a blooming huge tank to keep it in any comfort

Don't be like that iceman. You got some really good advice, and even Gavin was telling you the right thing, in his own way ; ) Remember, there are no stupid questions. Don't leave because you got good advice from people who know what they are talking about. This site is a great place, a good source of info with a nice friendly open community.

Iceman, please dont take Gavin the wrong way, he's passionate about fishkeeping like the rest of us here, but like most of us we hate seeing new fishkeepers being duped into buying something completely wrong for their setup, there are unscrupulous shops out there that will do this ( but not anyone here), it's great to see someone new using their heads and this site to find out about fish before buying, you are to be congratulated on that point, we're not a nasty group here and all of us need help and advice from time to time, so stay and find out for yourself... remember you've done the right thing by asking first, buying later and although Gavin was giving you good advice although in weird and wonderfully colourful way, we all stick together here and help each other... hope to hear from you soon
