leptosoma throat burst 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago  
just back from holidays and noticed my leptosoma was holding again. she look fairly full but i thought id wait till today to strip her. she was well over due. when i looked at her today her throat had burst and the fry were swimming out...doh! has this happened anyone else? it looks pretty severe but she seems ok.
ill try get a pic tomorrow

Sounds nasty fran. It just shows how determined she was to hold on to them.
Sorry i cant help with info on this.
Just keep an eye on her in case she gets an infections.

the only thing i can suggest is maybe isolate her with the fry and watch out for infections never heard of this happening before

heres the pics...not great quality but shes hanging out in the dark part of the tank!









i was thinking of using melafix to be safe...has anyone used this with fry present?

Very nasty, I can not see that healing, I assume if she does not die from infection, she will always have a hole there, may make eating difficult too. Melafix is safe with fry, I have used it several time in tanks with young fry and no problems. Good luck with the treatment.

i was talking to derek last night, for those of you who dont know him he has 25 or 30 years experience in fish keeping/breeding, anyway he was saying it was quite possible another fish bit the leptosoma in an attempt to get at the babies. I'll keep you posted on her.

shes healing up nicely....eating like a horse and all round behaviour is normal. she's still not 100% but so far no infection and all the signs are good.
