Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Is it worth pointing out that all entry fees - even those of non-members and non-bidders attending go directly to the Charity as well?

It does say "Entries fees + 15% of all sale prices go to charity, 100% of the sale price of any donated items also go to charity" but good news like that is always worth repeating.

Hi Mick, indeed it does and it would be great to get a list of what people plan to auction.

However remember that if you say you are going to bring X fish along and don't others may have travelled to buy something that won't be there and on the other hand if you see someone else selling something you are interested in, it is possible the changed their mind or couldn't catch the fish etc.

So yes it would be great if people posted what they plan to auction, but only if you are definitely planning to bring it along, to avoid any disappointment all around.

In the dry goods section, there will definitely be some books, just gave the library a clear out and I don't need all those freshwater books anymore ;-)

There will also be some rare wild type swordtail pairs.

And I am putting up a Panasonic underwater video camera complete with memory card, instructions, box and receipt. Minimum reserve will apply.

Anyone else know what they are bringing?

Daragh

Would like:
MALE farlowella.
FEMALE appisto agazissi.

Could be persuaded to bring:
male Dicrossus filamentosa x 2 (all or nothing! girls stay with the alpha. They (boys) are stunning). In very soft blackwater, pH about 5.8
1 Male and 1 female Dicrossus maculata (w.c., girls ready to pop!) In soft white water, lots plants, pH6.2

At a BIG push, 1 male sturisoma aureum. (too much like hard work to catch him. Involves removing meter long bits of bogwood. Will happily donate him, but want the return for the charity.)

*Andrew,
They're doing great - they spawn around every fortnight but the eggs never last a second night!
I've read this does happen a lot in captivity with wild fish.I've tried all manner of ploys but have now decided to leave them at it in the hope they eventually get it right.

Back to the auction.
*Murph,
Please try to catch the Male Sturisoma, someone I know has two lonely females.

Ok John, I'll try.

It needs a re-scape anyway. The neons were at it this morning. (Bad buzz:hammer: . They weren't supposed to survive this long, let alone breed. Cory eggs and sturi fry must be good for them.)

(Must get some new (bigger) nets.)

There is plenty of parking spaces at the rear of the pub.

I'll be bringing along the following (as long as i can catch them):

Breeding pair of angels.
Breeding pair of whiptails or two.
Some pairs or trio's of killifish.
Pairs of livebearers.
Various young L numbers (plecos).
Various unusual Danios, Rasborars and the like...
Small groups of cardinals and rummynose tetra.

Possibly some plants like HC Cuba, Eleocharis parvula, Rotala sp.'Green' Anubias etc...

I have left out specias names incase i cant catch what i want.
I wouldent want to say i am bringing something and then not bring it.
But i do have some interesting stuff to bring along.
