Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I just found out that the people I live with are getting a painter in to paint the house (walls ceilings skirting etc) I've got two tanks in my room 90l and 30l I could possibly remove the 30l completely but my 90 litre is planted with guppies and fry which could prove impossible to catch em all. I'm sure I can get the water down to an inch or two and move the cabinet a few feet so that he can manoeuvre around it.

The third tank is a 240l thank in the sitting room with 6 adult bristlenose Plecos (Gonna cut down soon), 2 juvis and several fry, 7 cories, 3 blue gourami and 2 angles. Would it be safe to fill a container to house them until the job is done (water from the tank, same external filter air pump and heater? No clue how to go about this.

I think it is safe but try a big container because thats many fish :)
i recently got some rectangular plastic bins from DIY shop for 4.99 each. I thing they are 45L and come with lids. I would recommend you get 2 or 3 of those and put air pumps..

Surely if you slid the tanks out half a foot or a foot they would have room to get a roller in. If not go to home store and more. They nearly always have deals on the plastic tubs

Alan it's not the fumes I'm worried about its more or less the fact that they want to paint behind it.

I'll get some containers this week. If I can't get anything big enough I'm considering emptying the tank completely saving 50 percent of the water. Moving the tank to the centre of the room then refilling with 50 percent old and new water for a few days then again when it's going back to the old location does anyone see any problems with this method? In my head it seems ok but I don't wanna loose any fish over a bacteria situation or stress as I have a lot of fish in this tank.

All posts are appreciated as its giving me peace of mind of the situation. My guppies will live in the container for a day or two I'll test the water regularly incase anything happens.

Hi lads I went and got a large plastic tub and drained the tank completely I used the filter and the gravel to be safe I moved them 3 days ago and all is well so far ammonia nitrite 0 and nitrate is 40 (Thursday is water change day but it's delayed until tomorrow as it should be finished being painted today). I'm planning on changing my gravel and going with a new set up so the tub may be their new home until the tank completes its cycle.

Also I've fry in this bucket in a breeding nest. Kinda using these as a canary in a mine tested the water morning and night since it has been set up.

You might be painted at this stage but my tip is to use a rug i.e. lower the water level as much as possible, storing the water for putting back in. Then lift the stand as much as possible on one side and slide the rug in. You should then be able to slide out the tank enough to paint behind it.

I've used this to move the tank from room to room without issue
