Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

PaulV's Round - Round 4

Right then, here's Round Four for your consideration and Paul has generously donated a €50 voucher from Seahorse Aquariums as first prize, while Darkslice has joined in with a 2kg Co2 canister for a back-up prize.

Here's a 'copy-and-paste of the relevant part of Paul's post from the August Results thread:

"Hi John, sory for the late reply. If the next comp does go ahead I'm thinking a south american theme. Any fish from south america, that opens up my favourite monster fish category. The prize can be posted anywhere in the country and seahorse is open in Galway now making it easier to use the voucher. Hopefully this attracts a good interest".

So, from this you will see that the topic is a South and Central American one.
It is starting as of now, but so far we don't know Paul's decision as to the duration of the round - but doubtlessly he'll announce that at some point in the future. Midnight October 31 is the deadline

Usual Rules apply (the picture must be then entrant's own work, have not appeared here or anywhere else previously etc) but the main difference to previous rounds is that the main prize donor (the one to whom the round is 'dedicated') will be the sole adjudicator of the entries submitted for that round. This will overcome the voting apathy which has blighted the rounds of recent history of the Competitions.

So that's it - please send your South and Central American-themed entries to the Forum's Competition address:
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
And Paul will add a closing date for the round.

Edit, Paul has contacted me and the end date is Midnight October 31 as it's September 10 already.

As ever, once the first entry arrives the thread will be locked until the round is completed.

Good luck everyone.

We have made an executive decision - well, Paul has really - and he is now happy to include images of Central American fish as well so now the category is
South and Central Americans

Paul has decided he would be happy for every entrant to be able to submit up to three pictures - but this isn't essential, two, or even one, are perfectly acceptable.
So...up to three pictures may now be sent (for this round, at least).

A quick reminder of the address for entries - it's:

This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Remembering that his theme is fish from South and Central America.

To clear up a small point of confusion which appeared in the past, the pics do have to be the entrant's own work and which have not appeared on this or any other site before but need not be the entrant's own fish - or taken in his/her own tank(s).
Another smaill piece of information is that entries do not need reducing in file size before submitting since the photobucket host we use automatically brings down the file size to the correct dimensions before hosting can occur.

A polite reminder that, should you be wishing to enter this round, there are only two more days to do so.

A little 'heads-up' for the next round - Jaro has offered his Fluval Chi tank as a prize - does anyone have any other items they might like to add to the November prize list?

Over to you now Paul - we need your choice of the picture you put into first place.
After Paul has made his decision we'll then ask Darkslide to choose a second place to win his Co2 bottle. Can I ask you both to send me your decisions by PM.

Many thanks to both donors for the September/October Round prizes.

Paul has made his choice for his round and it's

(Imaginary fanfare of trumpets)

Entry #08, the pair of Jack Dempseys submitted by James (IrishZX10R).

Here are the details from Paul's PM to me:
"Good morning John, ive picked entry number 8 as the winner. If the winner can pm me his/her full postal address I will post on the seahorse voucher. Im about to head to work, but I'll post a comment on the pics later today from my ph."

Well done James.

Here's the choice from Darkslice:

(Let's forget the trumpets)

"Torn between 12 and 14, but going to pick 14, with 12 as a backup"

Since they were both entries from the same competitor I'll just add "Well done" to Inza.
You can sort out the mechanics of collection between yourselves.

Thanks to everyone who took the time and effort to enter.
