Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

I was going there this afternoon but will hang on till Thursday...I need to get some more of those very nice and very cheap Instant Noodles packs (before Didinho buys them all again!!!)
Actually sometimes not all the items offered in the leaflets end up in our Lidl, I think, despite what they claim, most of the best of the offers don't go far from the Cities and the larger Towns! :shock:
(A bit like the free Guinness Offer from Tesco the other week!) :!: :!: :!:

Just you wait until you need spares...but I suppose at that price you could chuck it away and wait for them to offer them again...

Talking about buying expensive fly kitt! It in virtually impossible to buy a cheap/decent fly rod in Ireland. I had to get mine in Scotland and it was roughly a third of the price that was being charged in Ireland. They say buying from the Internet is destroying fishing shops in Ireland, well if the fishing shops didn't destroy my bank balance when I wanted to buy gear I would have some sympathy.
For instance I bought a packet of snap swivels four weeks ago in a fishing tackle shop in Dublin. €4.99 it coast for 10 pieces. For a little under twice that price I picked up eight times that amount in Lidl.
What do you fly fish for by the way?
Lead me not into temptation, For I can find it myself!

I got up with the lark this morning and was there at the crack of Dawn (well, 10am, which is about the same for me...). :roll:
I picked up a couple of Lilies, which weren't all that bad for the price - certainly a lot better than the ones I bought elsewhere last summer - and a few marginals and floating plants.
NOTE TO RUSSELL: - They had Water Lettuce there too. :!:
Trouble with Lidl, I find, is I end up buying loads of stuff in their 'offers' section which I don't really need...I suppose I'm their "classic" mug! I even bought a pond pump but only because it was there - I don't really need another one - probably might be able to use it for water supply from outside barrell though...
Looked at reels and reckon for €6.99 they'd be fine but then realised I truly don't need any more reels, especially fixed-spool ones so gave them a miss. :wink:
NOTE TO DIDINHO: - bought loads of Noodles but left a few - and since you'd hardly be coming to Birr to shop I probably should have bought more... :twisted:
Well, that's it - back over to you Fly Fishermen...I was fishing on our local Trout river yesterday and caught nothing...it's probably been 'maggotted out' again, same thing happened last year!
