Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi there.
Aquarium is runnig obout 4 months. It looked better than now, but I had problem with algas and had to remove some plants. I still check new plants, put old in deferet places, but i'm getting closer to final efect. I'm thinking all the time about Cryptocoryne with long leafs (on the right one)... mabye it would be better to remove it behind first root on the left? What do you think?

The tank looks great. What are the tank dimensions.
Maybe some Giant Vallis to the left to cover the filter uplift.

You have an artistic eye so what do I know.

Thanks for sharing.
Do post pictures of your final creation.

Dimensions are 80Lx35Wx45H.

Thanks for sugestion Greg. You are right and I will replace that green pipe, but i can't find any nice glazed lately. I have to order some in the internet. Anyway, there is some grass but growes very slowly.

For this photos i used nikon D700 with tamron 28-75mm. I'm not haapy with the quality of first one becouse stones look like burnt. I will work on it some day. But thank you :)

that's a fine layout
very nice
I wouldn't move the Cryptocoryne, I think it looks very nice where it is
if You could move the the filter intake over to the right of the tank (behind the plants) it would free up the space and be hidden from view...

I was always of the impression that to create flow in the tank, you need to put the intake and output as far apart as possible and if possible at opposite ends of the tank.

I can't see the output and there doesn't appear to be a spraybar, but I assume its behind the Cryptocoryne, in which case would it not be best to leave the intake where it is and Camouflage it?

Maybe you're right, thanks. :)

Exactly.
As i said, in place that intake I will put glass one soon. But i will not camouflage it, because I want to leave that space free from tall plants.

Tkanks guys.
There is Juwel Day and Juwel Colour light, both 35W.
Fish: lemon tetra x6, otocinclus x6 and 1 pair of Apistogramma bitaeniata (always invisible).
I'm glad that you like colours, but I think that there is to much red. Last week I've put a few green plants to make roots better exposed.

Normally lights are turn on from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. If I'm at home all day I turn them on when I get up.
CO2 is turned on all the time. I don't know how much per minute. I set up pH 5,5 but I've never got that level. Mostly it's about 5.9 - 6.1.
Yes, it's optiwhite.

Sorry for my english, but I hope that you undarstand... more less :)

A few more photos of fish and shrimps.

Truely great shots, my favourite Fish Apistogramma and Plant Mayaca fluviatalis, I love the red/pink that is evident under the right kind of Lighting.
