Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi everyone

Hi all

My name is Tom and I`m from county Tipp.I have two tanks Pearl 54l with a Green spotted puffer salinity 1.004 ppm.
Second tank is MP 80 l. with neons and a breeding pair of bristlenoses.I only keep easy growing plants like Vallisneria sp, C.wendtii, Anubias barteri and Java moss.
Its great to be able to have a chat with other mad people about our fantastic hobby.
I forgot to mention I got a bigger tank, I'm busy now with my daughter but I will put in more details later.
Regards, Tom.

HI Gavin
Puffers have great personalities but you have to do your homework before you get them. I fed them wrongly and i was chasing the right water parameters .Their diet is where i was doing mistakes ,Now i feed them with snails mostly, beef hart, shrimps and frozen bloodworms.I have the little fella for nearly 3 years and he's some character.I do water changes every two weeks 40% volume of tank. Keep eye only on salinity I was trying to get pics of him for the photo competition but they didnt come out well.

take care

Welcome along mate, what size tank have you got your puffer in? Would a 65 litre juwel be big enough for 1 puffer? Gerry

Howdy.

Love puffers, you are keeping him brackish? Just read on PFK that Dwarf puffers are fresh and not brackish, as I was lead to believe. Fig 8 Puffers are brackish though.

Edit: Would help if I read your post. Green Spotted, got it. Disregard.

Great little things, little poop factories though!

HI Gerry

I bought him very small, about half an inch and he has a slow rate of growth. He still doesnt have 2 inches after 2.5 years. They have a long life span, over 10 years in the right conditions. He is actually in a 54 l aquarium but ill get him a bigger tank when he growe more.
