Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi all,

I have changed the software that runs the forum and website today.

The new software is a content management system and a forum.

This will allow users to posts not just questions, but to post articles and news about fish keeping etc.

This new software will allow us to add more features to the website without requiring any significant changes.

Hopefully we will be adding blogs and photo galleries for users soon.

If you have an issues with it, PM or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

I do apologise for not putting up any notice about the move, I am off sick today from work and I got a bit over-zealous setting up the new software.

Regards

Darragh

Please excuse my apparent ignorance...have we lost the PM facility? Would it be possible to access 'saved' PMs?

Darragh, new design is excellent!!!

Couple of suggestions:

Can you turn off flood protection.
It really annoys people that can type with more than one finger.
i.e. I can reply to more then one thread in 30 seconds, albeit mostly nonsense!!!

Also, for some reason some posts are crammed in the far right hand side of the page.
I think they may be 'quoted' posts, as 'freshly typed' posts seem to be OK.

Finally the 'view post since last visit' feature was the best feature of the last site, please bring it back!!!

Again, love the new look!

looking good Daragh. You have obviously put quite a bit of time into the new site.
Q. i have received a few text's today from people not sure how to send/receive pm's. or how to reply to posts.
I also had fins n things wanting to delete some old posts and put up new one's but couldent figure it out.
Is it possible to put up some pointers to help people with the new site.
Darren.

'view post since last visit' feature is now called \"Show Latest Posts\", it's at the top of screen below the banner logo

PM should be working now, although saved PMs have not been migrated yet, I'm currently working on that.

To PM somebody, just click the little \"PM\" icon below there username in the forum.
Also, you will seen on the left hand side menu a menu called \"Private Messages\" this wil indicate if you have any unread messages and you can also click on it see any previously read messages.

Fins and Things should be able to moderate their own board again, I have been working on migrating the moderators today.
If you are a moderator and are not currently showing up as a moderator, can you PM which boards you did moderate.

The issue with the layout and the posts moving all the way to the right should be fixed now, it was to do with the graph showing the amount of users posts being to big.

I will look into altering the text colour for the forum, it may take me a little while to figure out how to change that.

On replying to post, you have 2 options, you can either reply to the a particular post in a topic by clicking on \"Reply\" on the post which has all the formatting options or \"Quick Reply\" which has no formatting options or you can reply the Topic (complete discussion) by clicking on \"Reply Topic\" at the top or bottom of the page.

Hope that helps.

Hi all

The website maybe down for a few minutes between 20:00 and 20:15 to restart the database.
We are hoping this will fix a number of issues to do with \"new posts\" etc.

Sorry about the short notice, but service should only be interrupted for a few minutes

Getting used to getting around now, love the new look and look forward to using new facilities. Just one small query, would it be possible to the the \"View Latest Posts\" link on all forum pages, I keep having to click back to \"forum\" to click it. I love how you can configure how many hours posts you want to see, very handy.

It's the most request feature people want back :) . All I can is that I am looking into it at the moment and may take a little while as it seems to be buried in the code for the forum

Darragh,
Is there any chance you could add the 'go to latest post' or 'view last unread post' button to all threads. It is a real pain having to navigate to the end of a thread to get to the last post.

I imagine most people come to the fortum page and click 'view latest posts'.
This then brings you to a list of threads that have lastest posts in them.
It is this list that should have the links mentioned above.
Thanks,
Darah

Pete,

I'll look into it, seems someone has changed the timezone on the server from Central Time to GMT which has caused the clock to offset by 6 hours
