Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

hi guys. its nice to see you on the forum. We had a ball at Hayling this year. The shows are judged to FBAS standards. We use their size book etc. It would be great to have you over with your fish too. You could join in with the social end of things aswell...show you how the Irish celebrate...ha ha

The ITFS show which was the one held last year will most likely be the same weekend again next year which will be the 24th and 25th of may 2008. When the LFKS get their venue sorted they will let you know what their dates will be but as said earlier itll be early August

Enjoy teh forum adn looking forward to seeing you at the shows next year.

Just checking out the details and only about three hours drive from Holyhead, it is tempting, but we were over the the CSG auction last weekend and going again in March, so I think I will have to give this one a miss.

For anyone else interested here are the results of the last auction:

Greetings Tim and welcome to the forum.
Say hello to Dave and Collin for me.

I cant make it over to the auction so if you come across some Fundulosoma thirryi keep me in mind;) .

There is one rule we use for shows that the FBAS dont use and that is all those that enter fish must perform a traditional Irish dance on stage. UK residents go first.

Darren.

Yea a report on the auction would be great.

I have never had fish posted from the UK, but I have had them couriered. I understand that APC couriers are the only one that will handle live fish, though having said that I think it may depend on the office of APC you are dealing with because I have had one office refuse and another one work fine. The important thing with APC is that you must clearly state they are for shipping not airfreight. The first time I was getting fish sent the were returned to the sender three times, as they got rejected at teh airport. Eventually APC clearly marked the box for shipping and it was handled correctly and delivered here the next day.

To use the word \"impartial \" before \"judge\" is redundant. Not only does a judge have to possess a huge amount of knowledge on a huge range of fish, he/she has to have the respect of the clubs and have an integrity about them at all times, which our esteemed judges have in bucketfuls.

They graciously gave up their free time at last years show(and many before that) and did an amazing job with no complaints from anyone. Its not an easy job and it would seem that your statement while absolutely innocent in its intentions may be taken up the wrong way?

FYI as far as I know exams will be held next year for anyone interested in becoming a fish show judge.

I dont think Cillian meant any offence to any judge, it was just a turn of phrase.

Like I said it was an innocent statement!
