Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Sorry if I dampen your expectations but unless that pond is dug to china it doesn't look 10, 000 gallons.
Below tank is for sale

Looks closer to 10000L than gallons may change your filter and UV requirements a bit
Sorry its 10,000L and not gallon lol it's not a lake by any means the uv filter is a easy fix would the 120L filter barrel not be big enough?

120L Filter would be fine. Get some bulk foam, medium and corse, some Zeolite Rocks, and alfagrog pond filter media.

Is your pond 4m or 4feet (1.2m) deep?

With 10000L then the original UV would be ok.
120L Filter would be fine. Get some bulk foam, medium and corse, some Zeolite Rocks, and alfagrog pond filter media.
Where is the best place to get these ? It's work in progress and I have only spent €4 happy days

I can see a few problems but with time and more info I get there.
It's about 4 ft
I can't fill it right to the top because of a rip on the liner but there is a good lot of water and its only to home about 6 fish from my cold water fish tank. What pump should I use ? I have a small otter 100 and the other pump is massive don't know what it was used for from before.

The Zeolite and Alfagrog might have to be ordered. If you only have a few fish, you can leave out the zeolite.
You can use chopped up garden hose, etc as media too.
The 100 pump should do for now, no need for a huge flow with the large filter volume you have, and only a few fish.
Most pint pumps will be on sale come end of September so keep an eye out.
There are some patching products about for liner, have a google. Some are rubbish, so check for reviews.
Love how you camouflaged your filter.

For the filter media in my filter i used cut up garden hose, some 2inch pipe chopped up and a big reel of fishing gut that i had lying in the shed. Abd a load of normal filter foam like this stuff,
www.amazon.co.uk/Finest-Filters-12-15mm-...s=pond+filter+sponge
fairly cheap too.
stuart.
