Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Marines a possibility. Find the fish cool to lookat but very boring. Live rock and Corals are amazing.
Heres all the fish I ever kept or nearly all I kept so I need something different.
1 Community tank.
2 Mbuna.
3 Central American. ( mid sized cichlids.) Salvinis/ JD`s/Firemouths etc.
4 Haplochroms tanks.
5 Discus.
6 Large Centrals and large Riverine Africans.(Midas Trimacs,Tilapias, etc)
7 Tangagnyikans, Tropheus,Shellies, Cave spawners M / Brooders.
8 Dwarf south Americans. Apistos,Rams,Keyholes, Curviceps.
9 Mid sized S/Americans. Blue acaras,Green terrors, Severnums.
I think that is my experience more or less although I was a catfish nut and still love my Synos.
Anyone ever keep Snakeheads. I don`t think my tank is big enough though. Maybe another quieter Mbuna tank. Moori/Labs/Tropheops
I have always kept African cichlids and probably always will.
Mid sized South Americans sound good. Heckeli, Jurapari.

Liosomadoras oncinus ( Jaguar Catfish )
They get to about 6"
Will eat small crustaceans when big enough will eat small fish ( fine with fish of same or greater size ), and assorted invertabrates
Just a thought as you like your cats.

One of the smaller Crenichichla species such as regani or even smaller ones (the names don't come to mind but I'll have a look tonight), a couple of L numbers and maybe some bleeding heart tetras.

Bit of bias coming in here but I'm suggesting a small shoal of Angels (what a surprise!).
Shame it isn't a bigger (and deeper) tank, then the suggestion would be Altum Angels!!!

6 Met. Msobo Magunga Deep
4 Tropheops macrophthalmus
5 Syno. Multipunctatus
Nice mix of blue/navy and yellow with some lovely syno's.Not too much looking after really, except for the Tropheops but I know you were thinking of them..... www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=2306

It`s a big tank. Big enough for Altums. Anyway Tetras and Angels would be a major step back. No offence. ( Personally I hate Angels)
I might just leave my Tropheus Lupota Colony/ 4 Syno`s /Paki loach and a large Gibbceps there.
I can then fill my 400l with loads of Shellies.
Looking for some Leptosomma and Flavipinnis. If I do move away from the Africans then Geophagus Surinaminsis or some Hecklii will be my next option. Any plumbers on the forum. If I get a radiator moved I could go Marine.
Thanks for all the helpful hints.

Didn't know there were steps up and back in the hobby. Is there a hierarchy that determines where you are according to what fish you keep.
If you don't like Angels that's fair enough but to say keeping them is beneath you is a bit ridiculous.
Don't get me wrong, i'm not the type to get offended by what gets written on a forum but that made me laugh.

I am intitled to my opinion as to what fish I like. I want to keep something new. I don`t like community fish and I don`t like Angels, thats my personal choice.I also don`t like........
Cats.
George Bush.
Bertie Ahern.
Enda Kenny.
Polution.
Global warming.
People who pedal in slip gear.
People who stand on escalators and are too lazy to walk up them.
Soap operas.
Man utd.
Rangers.
Apistodiscus.
Fr Jack.
Chrism.
Goldy.
Iffymike.
You.
Damien Ireland.
Daragh.
Darragh.
Darren.
Red empress.
All the other members of this forum, especially Didihno.

But that is my opinion. God gave me a brain. I only use half of it.
It might be small but I have the power to make choices.
Thanking you...

Ps. I love you all.........NOT

Agree with Peter though, a hierachy is not diserable thing in fishkeeping.

Nowhere near big enough for real altums. They neeed tanks at least 60 cm high. Fine for what is sold as Peruvian Altums (P. leopoldi).

I never mentioned a hierarchy.
I just want to keep something new.
