Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Some new additions to the fish room as of this morning. Picked up 5 of them. Still fairly young only 2-3 inches. Hopefully i can grow them on and get a pair from them. It's my 1st adventure with snake heads so really looking forward to seeing how I far out with them. I just need to add a lot more plants as all I have is wood and a couple of clay pots

Thanks Trent. These eat anything that's put in the tank 1st time. I've never seen fish like it. They love the food you gave me plus ive just got the "spawn and grow " so that should put on extra size as well

youve probably found the down side of the food by now. if you feed too much it clouds water. i had a few cloudy tanks first day i got it as got a bit heavy handed with it

Beautiful fish Ski
Proper predatory hunters too
When kept in groups they form a hunting pack, but will become extremely agressive towards any other fish!

Would be a contender to add to the "to keep in future list"

Try and stay away from any live food, they very quickly become dependant on it and ignore all dry and frozen food. Weld the tank lid on, it's amazing how Channa can lift even a heavy lid and end up dead on the floor.
Snake heads are the kick ass fish of the aquarium world, enjoy them.

Yea i haven't fed them live food for the last couple of weeks. I've wanted to try my hand with snake heads for a while just like the killis so really looking forward to seeing them fully grown and hopefully get a pair.

I'm picking up my own snake head tomorrow. It's a channa aurantimaculata, golden Cobra snake head, I've been waiting over a year to get this fish as my last one died. I'll post some pictures when I have a chance.

It took me a couple of weeks to get my Puncatta off live food and eating dried food!
He/she (can't tell) gets a treat of shrimp every now and again but was told to keep that to a minimum as it encourages agressive and brings out their hunting instincts!

Sometimes ya have to be careful sticking hand in the tank or he/she/it will take a lump outta yer hand too! (Bitten me 3 times so far) haha

Wow, really nice fish! Especially those blue and red line.
Didn't knew much about them until I researched little recently, really cool! It looks they are hard to buy?

You have me blushing...

But, seriously, I only do what I can to keep the Forum running - the real person, without whom we would all be lost is Darragh. He's the one who deserves all the praise.
