Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Has anyone got a good source of either collecting or purchasing Live Tubi.
I'm looking to get hold of some as we are poorly serviced with livefood supplies up North. Hence where possible I culture my own.
As yet I haven't managed to get out to Filter Beds or Trout Hatchery run off ponds as yet to do a bit of research and collecting myself.
If anyone has any contact details of a supplier/retailer/collector in the South I would be grateful.
Alternatively if anyone is attending next weeks show, if they would like to bring me a large fresh bag that would be brilliant. (bulk buy especially keen on)
Also looking for live Bloodworm supplier (in season) not your usual 30 worms in a bag from a retailer but again bulk buy.
Regards
C

Colin,
I've been searching myself for a source of Tubifex.
The supply seemed to disappear in UK around the end of the eighties following huge condemnation of it in the Aquatic Press (comics) there.
I used to buy it by the pound weight - happy days.
Likewise with Bloodworms, as you say you can buy (very) small amounts - certainly nowhere enough for the purposes a serious breeder would need.
I used to buy that from several Fishing Tackle shops when it was a popular Match Fishing bait (before bans happened) in England - it might be worth your while making enquiries in Tackle shops in the North as there used to be a healthy Match-fishing scene up there (and I don't think the scourge of carp has taken over there yet - although my guess is that it will).

Been there done that John,
I have got a contact on the mainland for the Tubifex but the postage is pretty much extortionate
and I cant justify paying that much for the worms.
I like you used to buy in bulk 1lb weights back in the eighties but I cant seem to get anyone nowadays.
I know a chap in California called Dan Garcia who may be willing to send Californian Blackworm, Lumbriculus variegatus (Of which you can culture at home with some success)UK customs would just destroy the shipment but he said that he once sent a shipment to Dublin with little hassle.
www.aquaticfoods.com/blackwormcare.html
But again this seems a aweful lot of expense and trouble to go to just for aquatic foodstuffs.
I'll don the marigolds and get out and about over the Summer and suss out a few local establishments and try and find a source.
Thanks again for your timely replies

Colin

Do you have access to Micro, Walter, or Banana worms? They're easy to culture. They can be a never ending supply of food.
