Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Pond Stuff was created by Lemurz (Lemurz)
In the process of constructing a small garden pond.

Can't believe how difficult it is to find pond hardware.

Anyhow FYI I finally bought a pre-mould last week from here after a long drive :(

www.kilkennyaquatics.ie/

Excellent range of pond/aqua stuff at good prices..... too bad it's in the midlands!

Aquatic village stock the entire Oase range of filters, pumps etc and provide all the extras you need for any pond, from a small goldfish pond to a professional koi system.

We are also stockist for cloverleaf and we have just recieved the new polygeyser beadfilters and ultra-sieve's which really have to be seen to be believed!!

Hi Mal.

I heard you can buy stuff that coats concrete making it safe for fish. Do you sell this. I may be interested.

I dont know the name but I could have had a nixer coating a concrete pond that was losing fish to beat the band.

Might be handy to know of in future.

interpet make V8 pondseal & blagdon make G8 both are elastomeric in application (stretchy even when dry)
runs in retail at 65.00 euro per 2.5 litres and does about 6m2 per can u need 2 things, a clean & dry pond and a smooth surface to obtain this coverage & it does not seem to go far. My pond is 18 x 17 x 7 ft and took 5.5 x 5 liter cans as it was a little rough. allways contact me for Qd

Rein fibres are rayon fibres and can be mixed with almost neat cement and forms a reinforced layer. You would use this if the pond was prone to cracking & you need two or three coats to form a 1/2 inch thick layer which is so strong that it takes a vibrating hammer to break it. Just imagine neat cement that is mixed & solid & its waterproof in itself. Need g8 or v8 to ensure that the cement does not leach into the water afterwards. Around the 60 euro per kilo( a kilo will mix about a ton and a half of cement (Ferro concrete). they use this on boat hulls(concrete)
