what filter is better?
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

no experience of atman sean but all eheim products have genuine quality and pedigree and are usually the best value for your money.
30 tanks specialise in african cichlids, angelfish and various catfish

Running 2 Eheim professional 3 filters 2080 for over 4-5 years constant and not once have I had a problem with either of them. No experience of the other one you mention but I swear by Eheim myself.

I don't know the other brand, but you can't go wrong with Eheim.
If the specs are the same, and also the price,I'd stick with the Eheim.I would also go for the lowest wattage ones,I find the cheaper the brand, the higher the wattage. For example, there are some cheap Chinese brands on the market,I got one given to me,it is similar specs to the Tetratec EX1200,but uses a horrific 35Watts opposed to the Tetra's 21W.
Also take into consideration the availability of spare parts and media.
always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

Yep! I'm another for the eheim brigade. I've run various eheims (including the Professional 3 2080) for years now without ever having any issues. Also currently run a Fluval FX5 which I also find excellent. Can't compare to other brands to be fair as never kept them but eheim have never let me down and I see no reason to change. Hope thats not the kiss of death on them now

Like everyone else I cannot comment on the other filter you mention, but I have never made any attempts to disguise my affection for and confidence in Eheim filters.
In my opinion they really are the 'Rolls-Royce' of power filters.
I do have other externals, but they're out in the shed as 'emergency' back-ups should an Eheim fail me...needless to say that's probably where they will remain for the foreseeable future, they've never been needed yet!
