Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Im thinking to get some of Taiwan shrimps (King Kong, Panda, Extreme). They need w.soft water Ph around 5.5-.5.8. Any ideas hove to how to lower Ph and keep stable??

I wont to setup 2 fluvl filters in line (205, 305) and change all media to bio rings to lett bacteria spread. According to lads from Taipei its always better have more good bacterias in tank in case you need them.

I dont wont use CO2 injections to keep Ph low so have to find some solution. No chemicals as well.
Any ideas??

that would be a great project manius. look forward to reading of your progress.
the ph and hardness in south dublin is fairly low anyway but to get real stability for very sensitive creatures is not so easy.
ian and some of the lads are good on this subject and should be able to give advice.

30 tanks specialise in african cichlids, angelfish and various catfish

Ye water is soft enought but still need to go down with ph up 5,5-5.8 and to get ph so low its no problem. Problem is to keep this stable.
Please lads for litle help and any ideas of lowering ph.
I belive they will be firs taiwan shrimps on this country (if I will get permission from Marine Institute Oranmore to get them in:-)))
I will keep you posted about progres. Soon as i get second fluval 305 or 405 i wont have them in one line. Outflow from first filter goes to inflow to second filter. Need some more bio rings so will have to visit seahorse soon:-))

Hi manius seems like a really interesting project I just have a question about your filtration. I don't know if these shrimp will have fry or not but how are you going to protect either fry and shrimp from the intake of the fluvals. Only reason I ask as I'm interested in getting shrimp some time in the future.

Some time agoe when I decidet to start my shrimp tanks I got aqua foam for my filtration. Few pcs of this foam as prefilter will protect offsprings from getting in to filters.
This is smallest problem I will have to deal with in this project :-)
