Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Talk: "Guide to Keeping Dart Frogs"

Speaker: Ian Millichip

Venue/Time: Rosie O'Grady's Pub (Function Room), Harold's Cross Road, Harold's Cross Dublin at 8pm Thurdsay 05th July 2012
(the talk on Dart Frogs will take place at a time after 8pm; 8pm is start time of the AGM meeting)

This will be a short informal talk that will focus on the basic needs for keeping Dart Frogs:
vivarium choice;
food;
equipment;
plant choice;
and on breeding Dart Frogs.
There will be an opportunity for input from fellow existing Dart Frog Keepers (so experienced keepers can also gain by way of being part of the presentation).

The speaker has just under 30 years experience of keeping and breeding Dart Frogs, and has been a guest speaker on radio and featured in a number of national media publications in recent years on work done with Dart Frogs.
The speakers original interest in Dart Frogs was an academic interest looking at the toxicology of the frogs; in recent years he has been focusing on Public Awareness of the Dart Frogs and on the Influence of the Captive Environment on Brood Success.

This talk will not be a scientific talk, but a talk on husbandry.

The outcome of the talk is that attendees who do not presently keep Dart Frogs should have the confidence and enough information to successfully set-up their first Dart Frog Vivarium, how to raise certain food, and how to minimise frog illness.
Existing keepers shall gain a few insights into how to raise tadpoles to full adult frogs.
This is also be an opportunity for Dart Frog keepers and people interested in Dart Frogs to meet.

It will be part of the HSI AGM. Admission will be free, and anyone can attend.

I look forward to meeting some fellow Dart Frog keepers and people interested in keeping Dart Frogs; and hopefully be able to get ideas for what people would like to hear in future talks on Dart Frogs.

Hi Ian, not being there, is there any possibility you could email me some details on the information you are intending disseminating? I would be very interested.

No problem.
I'll do that after the talk as I make up my talks as I go in general and tweek them to the audience questions during the talk.

I should really get down and do a fuller article on these as well.

Very much appreciated Ian, I have always, since a kid, been intrigued by Dart Frogs, I had an Encyclopedia on Animals and I could always find that section because those pages were always worn.
