Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

We have been looking through the list of Shops registered on the ITFS Forum as Sponsors and find that, on the list there are some who have never – or very rarely – made any input.
In all fairness we offer a platform for all registered businesses to be able to reach the many Forum Members, asking only (and very occasionally, at that) for a donation to be offered as a Competition or Raffle Prize and that you help yourselves by periodically telling our members things like stock updates.
Since there are some registered here who have not made any input to the Forum it could well be that (very unfortunately) they are no longer trading so this message is by way of discovering whether or not you are still ‘with us’.
If we receive no response to this email in a reasonable space of time we will reluctantly have to assume this to be the case and you will be taken from the Sponsors’ list.

Hi there John.......

In response to your open letter Aquatic Village recently offered you guys a brand new aquarium to raffle amongst yourselves and the proceeds were to go towards the running costs of the site..........i think this is nearly 3 months ago at this stage why have you not organized to collect it........you gave out to me prior to it saying i have only given you €50 to date???

If you guys are ever stuck for sponsorship i told you all you have to do is ask and i will help out in any way i can.....i think you guys do a great job and this is a great forum remove all sponsors that don't sponsor its as simple as that........set a baseline figure for the year and that's it .....What do you think?

As I remarked at that time, this was a very generous offer of yours Ian - even more so bearing in mind the 'difficult' way the Trade is right now.
I did look in to see you to explain in person why we couldn't accept it, but you were off that Day (but Alan made me a nice cuppa).
Please re-read the post above - no-one was being 'given out' to. It was in the nature of a 'fishing' (ouch, awful pun) post to find out who has survived this dreadful economic downturn and who wanted to still remain as Forum Sponsors. There are our 'regulars' who participate by posting new arrivals and special offers and there again there are those who have not troubled themselves to contribute, often in the past twelve months and in some cases never. It was those we were 'targeting', not the likes of yourself.
Next time I 'head East' I'll look in for a cuppa and listen to a bit of your unique banter.
John
