Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

2017...(and all that)...

On behalf of the Forum I would firstly like to take this opportunity of wishing each and every one of you a Very Happy New Year and to thank those of you who have stuck with us through 2016.
It's been quite a 'challenging' year with several 'outages' etc but I'm pleased (and not a little relieved) that this all seems to be (fingers firmly crossed) behind us now.

As we tend to drag out this topic annually, I thought it would be interesting to hear members' plans (New Year Resolutions, perhaps?) for the coming year. Gunnered has already outlined his upcoming project - any more plans from the others among you?

Also, perhaps you could send in details of mistakes made, regrets etc, in 2016 - for myself I think the low point has to be the loss of more Fish Shops, we really do need more, not less, but financial constraints and the economic 'temperature' here really are hitting some shops hard.

One last thing I'd like to mention, the entries for the Photocompetition Rounds really are at an all-time low, please consider sending in some entries to make the exercise of running them more worthwhile.

Again A Happy New Year to you all, with Many Happy Returns.

John

New Years resolution......

Label my plugs.

Why do I guess each time which plug goes to the pump, only to unplug the lights and have to reset the timers on it.
Or unplug the heater on my marine tank, go away or a week, and come back to a tank with NOTHING wrong it it, apart from being a bit cold and nemo wrapped up in a scarf!

Label plugs people's.

I'd like to thank you for all the hard work you have put into the forum, John. Also thanks to Darragh for his part in making it possible by financing it. Sometimes running a forum can feel like a thankless task, but I'm sure everyone is grateful.
As for resolutions, my wife tells me that my resolution is to go on a diet and lose a lot of weight so I've decided on a diet of fruit. I've ordered in six 2L bottles of Orangeade and ten Terry's chocolate oranges and for a bit of a change, 5 1L bottles of wine :)
Happy New Year to you John and everyone else on the forum.

P.S. I'd also like to ask more people to submit to the competition, it's great fun, whether prizes are involved or not. Look on it as building a photographic record of your tanks/fish with the added bonus of sharing with the forum.

Well can i add my best wishes to everyone for the new year . My plans are to back to the pond this season and the magic of koi this been badly neglected for the last two years while getting the tanks up and running , something that was helped by the advice from the forum members . My high for the years was getting the new 350 litre coldwater tank with sump and the low was lossing so many fish in the first few months in it , thankfully all is good now . So thanks to all and good fishkeeping for 2017
