Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

as you can see not all agree wit them, i feel they are twisted and changed 2 suit certain people, (please don't take offence as i know your doing a great job and you've the forums interest at heart) i love wen others repost on treads it keeps it alive and bumps it back to the top, editing does not and vital information can be missed unless we constantly go over posts to a point where we lose interest, it also forms bonds between members tru conversation (how long will it go before we're only allowed edit it once). "after a host of complaints"? if the complainers don't want to read a thread or lose interest they dont have to read it, and on the noobs selling tanks, equipment and showing no interest, wat about a wanted section only, where members post wat they need and potential sellers dont have to join but reply via email, i know this is not the buy and sell but on the buy and sell and gumtree it says "email this contact/seller" witout giving the email address, could this be a possible option? don't mind me im just a fry in this big ol'pond (an arowana fry small but wit a big mouth)

Check out the angling section, it is fantastic

If you put that much effort into typing a post about fish, your posts might be worth reading.

You are registered for 14 months, but only gracing us with your presence for the last couple of weeks, already you seem to know exactly what everyone else wants.

When I was admin, I kept it simple if you didn't like the rules, tough. Don't post, plenty of other forums.

I come here to read or post about fish, I am not interested in reading what you are watching on TV, at least if it was in the Social and Rubbish section, I now whether to bother reading or not, but that was in the "News" section, which was the correct place for the original poster, not for your reply.

it was a thread about television, and have my fish related posts not been informative? or not interesting enough for you?

The thread you are posting in was NOT about television, but about the revised guidelines.

OK, some people don't agree with all the amendments but more do, and it's for the benefit of the majority that they were revised.

Daragh Owens is right, if you don't like them, don't stay. Of all the PMs and phone calls I have received on the subject not one has rushed to your defence.

You can say whatever you like about me, I really am thick-skinned, but when you start inferring that the Forum Rules are to "benefit a minority" without clarifying that statement accurately then you are casting aspersions at others on the Forum - to which any member would take exception so we regard this as insulting to other unnamed members.
So you can regard this as a public warning - your next transgression will result in a month-long ban from the Forum.

God give me my Admin log-in for 30 seconds and you would be out of here.

John, you must have the patience of a saint.

You're a great man with the smug answers - the fuse is still burning away though.

What I want doesn't really matter - what the people who have contacted me about you would like to see is a more mature approach from you to the Forum, for you to remember that first and foremost this is a Fish Forum first and a social Forum second. As has been said to me today, if you want to contribute to a forum which enjoys your sense of humour then find one as those who have contacted me do not appreciate it on this Forum.
I do not want to ban you, but if you continue down the route you seem intent upon I will have no choice but to go along with the requests of my correspondents.

Think carefully before typing another smug one-line reply.

Alright then, let's hope your (hardly sincere) apology proves to be the start of a new Forum member...because, believe me, a lot of long-standing Forum regulars did not like the other one.
