Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Sounds like a good idea to me,
We would have to meet in the Midlands though,
Central to everyone :cheer:

Fly fishing could hardly be considered a sedentary form of fishing, but I see what you mean.

I think Esox was suggesting a series of outings and this could take in all aspects of the sport.

We might even consider a day out sea fishing?

Yes a few different outings would be good. Fly. Spinning for trout...
Coarse evening on a canal or carp fishing match style.
Sea from either bank or boat.
But we shall take a few steps back here.
And see who fishes for what and how...

Do any of you guys boat fish for trout.

I've been fishing almost since I could walk - and believe me, as with fishkeeping I'm STILL learning.
Don't be worried about appearing novice-like, everyone will be too interested in their own 'performances' to have time to contradict us less-than-perfect fly fishermen.

I have absolutely no issue with lookin "novice like" at all (ill be looking for whatever advice anyone wants to impart)..... ive done a fair bit of course fishing over the years but gave it up about 12 years ago due to illness and lack of time! Still have most of my equipment tho so i'm not too badly off!!!! I was just talkin to "she who must be obeyed" and shes told me to get a date and "get out from under my feet" for a day.....

So when suits? Anyone got dates that wont suit?

Since it was Esox who made the suggestion then it's only fair that he is given the opportunity to liaise with interested parties and sort out venues, dates etc etc.
Doubtless he'll be back later on.

Sounds good for venue and Friday or Saturday is ok depending on the date if its a date that I am due to work I wil look for a swap Can I also add to the venue Lough Cloghan I can get good prices and just about everything to help catch a trout tips the right fly and spot where there taking. Also the river Shannon is no more than 10 minutes away. This is just a idea meet up in Banagher 10am for breakfast first part of the day spinning on the Shannon then lunch in Banagher and fly fishing for the rest of the day ending at 5 pm its just a taught. If anyone can add please do and also tell us the location

I'd be on to meet up for a fishing trip not for the next few weeks though, after that definitely,

It would be fly fishing would be my preference, tired of spinning and was never into the sedentary fishing.

West would be ideal, but midlands ok to...

We can organise a few of these events over the next few months so everyone gets a chance to meet up and fish. The lake I am talking about is in the middle of Ireland. From Dublin.Galway,Limerick or up north you have to head for Arhlone.Cloghan is 15 miles away from athlone.
Here is a link for general directions

We have from 1 pound up to about 14 pound and stock the lake once a month the last two stocks the trout are very small at 1 pound we are thinking about getting a new supplier
If anyone from here knows of any fish farm that sells trout please let me know.
