Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

For Dar was created by JohnH (John)
We've set this category as a 'bit of fun' - as requested by Dar...I have to be nice to him since he's planning to become a 'neighbour' (well, on the other side of the Shannon).

Any Angling news, comments, photos and details of catches and can be posted here.
We'll let it run for a month then review it to see if the new Angling section will be worth keeping going.

John

Dear Dar, i love your new agony aunt section and i am writing to you as yesterday i came home from fishing to find (to my horror) that instead of sucking on the syphon, the missus decided she wanted to watch the re-run of every episode of eastenders that we watched the previous week with her feet up

wat should i do. Fisherman in Carlow

Dear fisherman in Carlow: for want of better word, oh that woman's gotta go. picture it this way she comes home, your feet are up the recording of "hooked on monster fishing" is on and there is no sign of the child on his/her return from his/her foreign exchange expidition, you have to ask yourself wat would your missus do in this situation? pack your bag that's wat. it is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all. Dar

lough Derg, this has tickled my fancy. the whole of clare is called "an anglers paradise" i'm not so sure because if i was advertising on a singles dating agency i would refare to my body as "a singles womans paradise" only for the woman to be hugely disappointed

Check out the angling section, it is fantastic

lol very good dar

the stepfather was in their local tackle shop and derg is free, not one scrap of paper needed. also, apparently tomorrow (easter sunday) is "may fly day" and there are competitions up and down the lake for trout fishing. i assume its flt fishing, so hopefully that leaves the carp and pike for me! it will be packed but i already sussed a good wee track to the lake a few years ago by accident (whilst walking dog) and i think its a good quiet spot to pierce my ears
