Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

18 Tropheus Duboisi 'Maswa' juveniles
2 Mastacembelus Plagiostoma

Transferred these guys from a 125L to a 450L today and by jaysus they are lost in there.........adding another 18 or so in a couple of weeks but I might look for a few more as they will be small for a good while yet.

I made a polystyrene/cement rock background for this tank that looked good outside of the tank but looked like crap when I put it in so that was scrapped and a paint job done the job!!

Sorry for the poor Led lighting video but the T5's on the unit are 80w and are not just too much for the fish but meself also!! (28w bulbs ordered earlier :woohoo: )

Also sorry for the background commentary of the Europa cup final (Seville won on penno's for anyone who didn't know)

Niceeeee I am about to get a Tanganyikan eel - How long have you had them and would you share your thoughts on them ?

Read a bit in the web but it is always good to hear from someone who actually keeps them

Cheers

Cheers dude.......I have these two Eel roughly 6-8 weeks now and I have had no issues with them at all......Not the most active during the day as you would expect but once night hits they become very active!! They are on a different diet to the Tropheus so they don't get fed till lights out,but I would imagine you would get to see them some more if your able to feed them during the day!! All in all i'm very happy with them and a very entertaining addition to any tank I would say,if your a night hawk like me!!

Hi Ger

The eel I got jumped off the tank last night ... got spooked when was going feed it , lights were off and I just heard the splash, put it back in tank and it is fine.

I have a glass lid and it is opened just a bit for feeding and it managed to use that opening to get out, pretty amazing and will need to be super careful from now on.

Did you manage to get the Elipsifer ? was looking at pics in Google and they are really nice looking :-)

Cheers !

Yeh the slightest little gap and they will jump through it.....mad things!! When i was transferring mine from one tank to another in a bucket one of them had a maybe 1.5 foot jump out of the water but thankfully landed back in the bucket.........Probably good to get a little reminder of what these guys are capable of so you are extra vigilant of were they are in the tank when your opening tops/slots!!

I didn't get M.Ellipsifer yet and i'm not really too bothered anymore about it to be honest........lovely eel but i'm thinking of keeping the two i have and not splitting them now as even though they are the same species they have completely different personalities and are entertaining me in different ways :)

Here's a short video of the Tropheus under half decent light (the eel were having there chill moments!!)

I added another 16 duboisi's so that brings the total up to 34 now.............Hopefully going to add 4-6 Neolamprologus Lelupi this week or maybe next just to colour things up a bit as they can be a stunning yellow.

I also added 30+ stones mostly at the back of the tank to try and fill it up a bit.

Here's a video of how things are at the minute and i'll add another when i get the Lelupi

Cheers dude,i've always being more into fishes personalities over lots of pretty colours (well in saying that a tank full of a variety of colourful Mbuna is a sight to behold in my opinion......and they just also have super personalities aswell :) ),but Leleupi's are stunning looking :)

I have 4 leulepi and they are fun to watch. Read they become a bit bad when they grow up, there could only be one male in tank and I can see some of that going on as I think I have two males 2 females. But you are right they have personality !

I got my hands on just the two Leleupi and i think i might leave it at that as they are nut balls ha..........they look great under the light but by jaysus they dont like each other lol............Thankfully the Tropheus are putting a little bit of manners on them and thats keeping the chasing down a small bit :)
