Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi All

There's a Nemo Tank We do in work and I'm sure is available in most Shops.
I know what You're thinking, Nemo, Give Me a break, even the name gives Me a headache at this stage, I must hear it about a million times a day...
It's a 15 litre Tank, I was thinking for a while now that it might actually have a bit of potential.
For a couple of Crayfish or something else undemanding...
It's not usually a Tank I'd pay much attention to, just intended as a starter kit for kids etc. etc.
It comes with a small filter, a few stickers, a mat, a background and an ornament, all Nemo themed...

It's just the fact that it's a glass Tank that got Me thinking...
I thought that if I was to get rid of all the Nemo stuff, I'd be left with a basic empty Tank that's not a million miles away from the Fluval Spec, which I think is a lovely Tank...

Anyway I was going set one up in work and then decided to get one and put it together for My little Nephew who is fascinated by My Crayfish...

Long story short, Here's the finished result

the Tank = €40
4kg of Gravel = €14
2.2kg of Dragon stone = €10

total = €64 - 25% (Staff Discount) = €48

The Crayfish are from one of My recent batches at home and I'll give Him a few Endlers too...
No Plants, the Crays would eat them, just keeping it simple...
the background is solid black card I have spare (used for mounting Photographs)

Delighted with the results of this little project, So is My Nephew :)
...and all for less than fifty quid !!!
(even without the Staff discount it would still be a very simple inexpensive little Nano...)

cheers
Des

Very good Des,
I do like the little CPOs myself, must look out for some more at some point in the future.

Agreed,lovely little set up,
I suspect there may be a sharp rise in sales of nemo tanks soon!
Do you get commission?:-)

Have seriously thought about one of those little tanks a fair few times for something similar

Sure why not ?, it's for nothing really and I like the way it comes with a mat...
It wouldn't take much to snazzy it up a little although if I was setting one up for Myself I'd most likely upgrade the filtration, use a different substrate and I'm sure a few other changes including plants etc. etc.
the point being though that it'd be a Budget Job...
I think I will set one up in work actually, why not ?

details on the other materials used in the tank...

Hugo Kamishi grey gravel 2kg Bags x2

Dragon Stone is great stuff, it looks cool, it's very soft and easy to break/shape, it's also very light in weight compared to most of the other Scape Stone/Rock available and at €4.49 per Kg at MaxiZoo it's good value too...

The little filters that come with them are poor to say the least so I'd defo upgrade the filter,
A bit of sand and a bit of stone work and I'd grow something for small shrimp to hide in!
The little matt is a great idea that comes with it!

Dearest part of the whole setup for me would be the lighting I'd say, oh and the stitches after the wife clocked me with something for bringing "yet another damn tank into the house".....

I like your thinking tho Des!

Des, You're a one-man advertising agency for MaxiZoo - I should think you deserve an even larger staff discount!!!
