Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Very nice Paddy ........It's kind of similar to what i have in my head for my next project, but with maybe a few bits of Anubias and a scattering of leaves here and there.........but we will see.
Loving that Panaque and what are them Angels?
Ger
They are just silver Angels.
Bought them as a breeding pair in SH....they were Johns breeding stock.
I had katappa leaves but I removed them the other day as they were decomposing. I will add more when I get some.
As well as for decor, I added them to reduce PH. After removing them from the tank my PH is still stable at 6.2.
I also have some almond leaf teabags in one of the filters.
I'm guessing that all that wood will suffice in keeping the PH down anyway

Very nice set up! You listed a lot of fish but it doesn't look anywhere near overstocked!
No it doesn't really.
The Gold nugget plec and Panaque are only juveniles (but growing quickly).
Maybe it'll be a different story when they reach adult size

Jaysus a PH of 6-2,lucky you.........Are you using rain water, RO water or peat aswell?,or what?......I've a 450L meself but Rain water and RO water is not really feasible for me right now so i'll be using a lot of peat in the filtration, plus the usual suspects of leaves, wood (probably be a hard wood though),but as the water out of my tap is as hard as concrete (Hmmm why do i want to change from Rift lake fish again?!! ha) i doubt i'll be getting that volume of water to too low of a PH unfortunately!!! Any tips though appreciated dude

RO mixed with tap water (treated).
The wood roots are quite big so that helps. Also the "tea" bags in the filter do a good job.
I'm lucky enough to have neutral(ish) water in Tallaght

Cool setup, I have to ask though. How did you get all the wood to stay put? Is it suction cupped in place?
No it's just leaning against the side/back panes of glass.

Paddy I love your setup is that vine wood you have? Also is there any problems with a white slimy growth on the wood?
Not sure if it's vine...it's not your typical bogwood/roots.
Seahorse has some...John had it out the back.
In my experience, there will always be a certain amount of fungus that will grow on the wood when it goes into the tank first but ancistrus love it and it's harmless to them

Jeez I hope it doesn't !
