Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hey all, I'm new to tropical fishkeeping, wanted to give it a go years ago but never got round to it. I recently got hold of my old fishtank (used to keep coldwater fish) after visiting a petshop with some friends and getting inspired to keep tropical fish after seeing loads there!

I have a ~65l tank with hood & thermostat, but need to get some bits and pieces like a bulb, filter, water test kit etc. In fact the list of stuff I have is a lot shorter than the stuff I need! For now I am going to go to some shops around me (in North Dublin) to search for inspiration of what I would like to keep as well as browsing the forums here, though I am fairly sure I would like to have some plants in the tank, but as for the type of plant and fish that will depend on my water characteristics I think.

I've had a read through an online beginners guide so I have a fairly good idea of what's entailed in the beginning, but if you have any suggestions for beginner material I'd appreciate it! Also, if there are any recommendations for good fish shops in the Dublin area I'd appreciate that too!

Thanks
Henry

Hi Man,

I've just only joined the forums too.
I have a tip for a shop over in Red Cow.
Guys are called seahorseaquariums.com and I'll probably never go anywhere else.
Not only they really have everything in abundance, they also have very good knowledge of all types of tanks and fish.
I keep topping up my loyalty card for a €50 of free live stock way too often for my liking

I'm back! Finally got myself round to setting the tank up and everything. Been set up for a couple of weeks now and finally have a few danio's zipping round the tank now. Makes for much more interesting watching than gravel and plants! :)
I've been using Seahorse Aquariums and having been in there 3 times, I've been served by 3 different people and they've all been very helpful and knowledgable. Also (sort of) on my way home from work which is a bonus
