Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi all,

I don't know if this is the place to put this, there is a chap on done deal selling Interpet Fresh Start water treatment, I bought 20 bottles off him for €70 and a little maths showed I saved about €200. Lovely guy to deal with.

Bit of a bargain alert for yiz now that we're coming into season....it's not me or my add and I've no ties to this guy so I didn't want to put it in the classifieds section.

Hope this helps some of you along.....

Gav

Hi , is it 250ml or 1 litre bottles , i personally use prime as one capful treats 50 gallons so it goes a long way , and its always handy to have if you get an ammonia spike. Think the interpet product is around 9 euro for 250 ml and 20 euro for the one litre , you certainly got a bargain

They are only 250m bottles and treat 2200l each. My pond is 2500 so for me they'll go along way on partial changes....
As much as €13 on some sites per 250m

Reckon you got a great bargain , and seeing your only treating the replacement water will keep you going a good while . Pond temps still low , are you feeding anything yet ?

Pond has lately been in and around 5/6 degrees. Popped in a little wheat germ, little if no interest. May wait a while longer.

Pond vac and water change is planned for tomorrow weather depending

That's not bad at all. I do prefer to buy in local fish shops when possible but the prices charged for water conditioner can be too much when pond keeping. I need to look into water harvesting as there are gutters all around the house but again I've heard this comes with its own problems

I used to use rainwater off the polycarbonate roof of our conservatory , but recently got a solid lightweight roof on it ,the roofing sheets contain aluminium so was advise by forum members not to use it
