Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I think so anyway.
I've had it two weeks and my Maroon clown took to it immediately.
I will go and test all my params again, but in the mean time, what are the common symptoms of a sick anemone?
this one is wilted badly, and its white inner mouth(?) has expanded and is a big as its 'finger' region.
Also it is lying on its side rather than upright, yet it is still attached to a rock by 50% of its foot.

This is quit common with a bubble anemone . Just keep an eye on it if it starts to expel its inners then you have a peoblem. The smell test is always the best that will tell you how hes doing.(once you can remove him without hurting him)
hope this helps.

I presume the smell is particularly bad as in \"you will know when it's bad\".

Its perking up a little, but I won't be doing a WC until tomorrow.
Too drunk now!

Fingers crossed it makes it until then.

About the expelling its innards bit, is that what you call it when its inner white bit is as big if not bigger than its green fingers bits around it?

Tested my water last night while bored during festivities.
Ph 7.8-8.0.
If the test kit was right then Nitrates were massive, like 80ppm.
This is a common reading in all my tanks, and my tap water reads 40+ppm as standard.
There was also a trace reading for ammonia, which was worrying.
No nitrite though yet so....did a 50% water change this morning.
My salinity was running at 1.024-5 (due to evaporation), and now its down to 1.022-3.
Odd considering I used 1.023 water for the change.
I'll let it settle for a bit and check it again tonight.
The anemone reacted immediately and is 1/4 back to normal.
By that i mean about 1/4 of its tentacles have filled out to normal size and its 'foot' immediately tightened up from a near shapeless mass of jelly into a semi solid structure, not quite as solid as it was but better.
'Nemo' is once again fidgeting around in the few tentacles.
The little bugger hasn't stopped attacking me when I put my hand in to feed or put upright the anemone.
Amazing the bond they form, fish and invert.

I need to know more about phosphates and their effects, I will research it more but if anyone can give me the basics that would be great.
Ditto iodine.
I add the calcium liquid supplement for the corals and inverts and marine snow for filter feeders, but no iodine, again, any tips here?
Tonight I'm going to get pictures up.

Anemone was dead this morning, removed it immediately as it was already decomposing.
Very dissapointed.

oh, oddly, I couldn't smell anything off it really, just the sea.
Not like when you remove a dead fish thats had a good few hours in the tank and whoa!

Didhino,
Sorry for the loss. Guess you are right regarding the nitrates.
Better luck next time.
