Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi all,
I am thinking of changing my pump that pumps the water back into the main tank.

At the moment I am running a Blau 3000 but have never been really happy with the amount of noise it makes.
I was thinking of swapping to a Jebao DC pump. Does anyone know if my Blau controller will work with the Jabao pump? I do like the controllability of the Blau as it goes up in 1% increments so I can get my overflow making no noise whatso ever.

If it won't work, what pump should I get for a 310 liter main tank with a 50 liter sump?
What do you use?
I want a quiet pump, on a budget!!
My tank is fresh water, but posting under marine as not many people run a sump on a tropical tank.

Thanks for help. (Again)

hi all I can tell you is that I use a Blau 3000 in the sump of my cold water tank ,I also purchased a Jebao 4000 dc as a back up after watching a Utube video which said the controllers are interchangeable they are not . the Jebao will not work on the Blau controller . the jebao power increases in10% amounts . I have done what a forum member sudjested to me that being putting a computer mouse mat under the pump and presto one very silent pump . hope this helps

Thanks Robert
The pump is ok but us getting noiser, and have it on a peice of filter mesh 1 1/2 inches thick. So am thinking of changing it for the winter when we spend most of our time in the fishtank room.

Did you actually to connect them to see it didn't work?
Do you know why didn't it work?

Hey mate,

I have blau, jeboa and waveline return pumps and none are interchangeable.

I have a 9000 blau in my 5ft and had a 3000 jeboa in my other tank when it was running. Bought the larger 9000 for the 5ft so i wouldn't have to run it full power to reduce noise.

There is also the trick of getting the particle foam blocks for filter systems and cutting the outline of the pump into the block and placing it into the sump. Does help the noise on blau ones as I've seen it done. Haven't done it myself but will to help reduce particles getting back up into maim tank.

It doesn't really matter what one you buy, just buy it bigger than you need as you can run it at lower speeds, maybe the jeboa since you want it not to break the bank.
