135gal, reef tank!
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I purchased this guy off e-bay lastweek. Picked it up and spent all saturday setting it up. Its 135gal oceanic reef tank, and oak stand and canopy. The lighting is 4-96wt VHO with ice-cap ballasts. It also has two 175 watt metal halides. The skimmer is an Aqua-C EV 180. It has a mag 24 return pump. 3-Maxi 400 powerheads. 30gal sump. 3-300watt heaters. It also came with 250 pounds of live rock. Its a good start to a reef tank.

I paid $1,500 or 1,177.48 euro. I didnt have it delivered I picked it up myself and it was not light. Will have to wait on fish till I get back from vacation. I have no one to look after it right now.

Nope, bought him yeserday, the only creatutres that came with the tank was crabs and snails. Had a chance to buy his fish, but most were not reef compatable and have no one to feed them when I go on vacation.

Ok, after purchasing my first corals I realised that there is no shelves to put them on. So tonight I broke the tank down and rearranged it to allow for coral placements. Unfortunatly the corals are a little stressed and not open at the moment. Will take some more pics after they open. So far I have a green sinularia, keyan frag, frag of xenia, and a nice yellow turbinaria species.

Its going to be georgeous when you get the coral going.
Maybe we should get a frag session going.
I have a few very small SPS frags (had a reefslide and some branches broke off - only small bits though).
What size are frags usually? Mine are a bit small to be honest, but everything grows eventually.
One word of caution -> is that an undergravel on the left hand side pump?
If it is, then you should seriously think about reversing the flow - otherwise say hello to the nitrate factory!
later
Conor.

And you're in the states....... scratch that frag idea so ;-0
(unless they travel that is). Dunno, can you safely post coral?

No, its the only thing I could find to add as a screen to the powerhead. Unfortunatly shipping frags from here to you would be like buying large pieces of collector acropora.
