Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

hi

ur tank looks really cool

is that an anchor coral?

do u have MH lights or t5s?

i was thinking of gettng some anchor coral myself but i was a bit weiry because i dont have mh lights, do u dose kalk or have a reactor or something??

photos: do u use photobucket to post ur photos on this forum, i do and its really easy to use, if u are using it, all u have to do is press the copy imagine link under the photo ur posting and then come back to the forum then paste it into the box, then just press enter to bring the cursor below ur first picture link, then go back to photobucket and follow the first steps and come back to the forum and paste again, u can have loads of images on one post this way and u can even write a little bit about each image just on top of the picture

Hi buleetu,

yeh its an anchor. I have a 150 watt halide light over the tank and plan to retro fit actinics in the next week or 2. Beleive me when i say a halide is the way to go. As soon as i had it hanging and on the difference in the tank was huge. The last pic is what i got the frag of which as doubled in size within the last 3 to 4 days.

i have a halide already, i just didnt put it on this system because the tank has a brace bar in the middle and if i was to hang it i would end up with a shadow in the middle

so i would either have to hang it at one end on its own or buy another one to balance it out, and i wont have the cash for another one till i get back from my holidays in early september,.

the one i have is a 150w and i have a 20 000 k bulb in it so its lovely and blue,

do u think i should maybe just stick it over one end of the tank for the time being, i could move the light demanding corals over to the side with the light

i was gona get one of the same corals the other week there, did u get urs in petstop by anychance, they have some nice ones up there now

Yeh thats were i got it. My tank is a jewel vision 180 and i have the halide over it. The brace bar is still on the tank and to be honest the shadow doesn't be a problem. OK there is a shadow but if you look how i arranged the rock i left a gap just were the shadow falls. If you look at it on reefs uk you will see a bigger picture which shows the slight shadow. Next on my list is some feather dusters.
