Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Playing with the idea of changing out the internal filter in a Trigon 190 and cam across this on Amazon...
www.amazon.co.uk/Aquarium-All-Pond-Solut...=pd_cp_petsupplies_1
Anyone got any experience of these? The reviews look good from people who have purchased them, especially like the comments on how quiet it is. The price is right!
Also like the fact it has a UV light. Only down side I can see is that its not a main brand and its power consumption is a little high at 35 watts, the ecco pros are only about 8 watts but I'd want to have two of those.
Thoughts?

I wouldn't consider myself experienced in fish keeping but I have got one of these there very quiet outside the cabinet the one I have is 18w with a9w uv bulb there easy to setup and clean. Only downside is the company your buying from is based in the uk so you would have to mail the faulty item to them.

I have one,was given it,and will be giving it on. I don't like the wattage, far too heavy on the juice. And a major concern would be parts availibility. They are a cheap Chinese almost copy, based on the Tetratecs.
May be a good price, but will it work out cheaper in the long run?
always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

Good question, I found
www.webmath.com/kwh.html which will calculate the actual cost, so this filter uses 48watts which works out to cost me 15 cent a day, I had looked at the ecco pro 2036 (750 l/h) and that filter uses 8watts, so that costs 3 cent a day. With VAT that works out as 0.03405EUR and 0.17025EUR so a difference of 0.1362EUR per day.
Cost difference of the filters is 20EUR, eheim is 89EUR the moment. So after 187 days the price is equal...only difference then is 1400l/h versus 750l/h, but the eheim figure is probably more realistic.
