Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

It took a long time to find the leak but when i did some emergency aquarium sealed it until i got new taps.
If you can find the source of the leak you should be able to seal it temporarily.

Leak only started after I cleaned it out, i think grit was a contributing factor in and around the seal, make sure you hose it down really well before reassembling.
good luck

It is leaking where the clips are on one side.
Also a small leak on the out pipe section where the tube leaves the filter

If its still under guarantee contact the above. I have replaced the O ring and the hose adapter unit and even the impeller and my tetratec 700 still has a leak.

The big O ring is around the motor head (thats the part you detach by opening the clips)
There are also smaller O rings on the hose adaptor unit ( release the unit with the top lever)
The nuts for holding the valves in place can be easily broken if your not aware of how they connect.
The hose must be pushed fully home on the valve nozzle before the holding nut is screwed back over it to keep it in place.
The canister can be pushed out of shape by too much media or ill fitting trays.
Also having too much water in it when resealing the unit can distort it.
The rubber seals can become stuck or dry, so opening the unit damages the seals.
Apply silicone grease if available, else vaseline as a temp measure until you get a replacent.
It can help to strip it down again and retry too..
Sit it on a towel so as no to destroy your cabinet and check it a few times before leaving the house.

Hi guys for all your questions on tetra tecs leaking......i was the agent for years there were a huge amount of problems tetra denied everything despite me ranting on tpo them, thats why i wont stock tetra anymore.....huge numbers leaked.....they said i was the only one......me.....i bought and sold hundreds it was a nightmare....anyway when u see the water coming out the handles its not the o ring so dont bother replacing it...the fault is in the machine head....the o rings fail...water leaks into the bulkhead via small gaps where you push male into female receiver water passes down the holes and comes out through the handles so everyone thinks its an o ring .....so believe me you have to replace the bulk head or the orings there....thats why tetra hate me now......i would complain if i were u......i dumped them because they are tossers.....
hope this helps
ian
