Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Not familiar with this filter but with any filter maintenance it should not be done with a large water change or water change in general, if you want to give the filter and seeing to its better to do it in-between the water change, so if your doing the filter 2moro leave the water change till next week or at least 4 days later , just take out a couple of ltrs. from tank in a basin and give the media a QUICK shake out DONT shake the life out of it or squeeze it, just 3 or 4 twists and thats it(never clean it), the chamber and all other parts of the filter can get a good wash under the tap and dry it with towel tissue ect.

Where the tongue slips, it speaks the truth.

No probs, at the end of the day that is the way all filters should be cleaned (maintained) and it depens on your bio-flow to termin how often it should be done, most filters will give a sign when they need a pic up, ie. the flow is getting weaker, thats the only time i ever gave mine some tlc apart from changing the floss every week or so, and if it does not have any make room for it and add it cause it keeps the media and filter much cleaner

I have a pf4 here swell (not using it at present)
When I was using it, I would have cleaned it out by removing the filters and shaking them inside the water removed from the aquarium!
Occasionally if they where really dirty, I would have squeezed the dirt out of one of them, but I'd never have squeezed them all at once!
The pf4 is a decent enough filter however I find they lack slightly in the silence department! They can be a bit noisier than I like occasionally

if their is a few sponges in it it wont do to much harm too over clean 1 of them but then dont clean the others at all till the new one/clean one has enough bacteria in it, i think around 2 wks. is good enough

That's good to here I only took out the sand I didn't do anything else
after a hour or two I noticed the suction cup and the heater hanging
so I put my hand it to fix it.
When I did this the water was very cold 20 c
I must have moved the plug or moved the adjuster for the heat.
Lucky enough all fish were ok and the tank was back up to temp soon after.
