Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

It could be a windows 8 connection compatibility problem????
In my honest opinion Windows 8 is a pile of donkey piss!!!!
Every version of windows since xp and vista has gotten progressively more annoying and harder to correct a problem on!!!

Id love a mac but the price of them is redonculous!!!!!

Its bound to be just a driver issue surely?
A quick email to the manufacturer should help?

when you buy the ghl midras you have leaflet inside the box with a few instructions telling you what's inside the box and not to get the lights wet, pretty useless stuff.it would be nice instead if they gave these instructions instead.. :hammer:

when you download the ghl control centre and connect up the usb cable to your laptop and press connect, a box comes up and says it cant connect, you go to device manager and click on ghl usb and update driver and you'll get a another box saying it doesn't have a digital signature...

on windows 8 if you go to the bottom right corner a gear icon appears, go into that and go to more pc settings, then general settings , then advances settings and restart now......when the laptop restarts it gives about 10 options and number 7 is disable diver signature enforcement..

so the laptop restarts and try again but still it wont work,,and that first box that appeared went into edit and changed comms port from auto to comm 1, went back to device manager and update driver and driver will update, then have to go back and change comms port back to auto

and hooray it now connects :woohoo:

ok went into my lights then and reconfigured light times that suited a bit better than how they come out of the box and have just found out the lights don't change time automatically when the times go back and forward. Bit of a pain but I don't think the Germans change there clocks so i'll have to live with that.
