Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Eheim pro 3 250 question

Hi all been a long time since I was on hope everyone is well. Wonder if anyone could help me with something? I recently bought an eheim pro 3 250 for my tank as my old external filter is on the way out and was trying to set up the new one. Unfortunately I can't seem to get the water flowing through the spray head. The water seems to level in the pipe bend at the same level as the tank water. If I hold the pipe lower than the tank into a container it flows no problem. The tank is a juwel about 100ltr and I only noticed the filter is for 120ltr + could that be the problem? Or is it possibly a faulty pump? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Al

Try sucking!!........put the inlet bar in the tank and take the outlet bar out and put in a container below the tank........when ready suck on the outlet bar until yeh get a siphon effect and the water is flowing......leave in container and plug filter in.....put your finger over the outlet and put it back in your tank.........has always worked for me in the past :)

The thing is it works when I hold it lower than the tank so siphoning doesn't really make any odds.it just doesn't seem to have the lift to get over the bend when it's in place.

ok then would i be right in saying that when the outlet is lower than the tank it works fine but when you lift it up to position while not turning off the power at any point from container to position on tank that it stops working?

Yep that's what's happening . I would have thought once it was flowing it would keep flowing as it's a more powerful pump than my old filter.

ok then this is an odd one.........i'm assuming your happy with the flow when you hold it down low so that kind of rules out a problem with the power head (unless of course your going 2-3 meters upwards from top of filter to top of tank).......have a go at sucking the outlet a few times while it's up at tank height if you dont mind a bit of tank water in your mouth (have a container to spit in)........and the prime button is doing nothing but push it a little?........Keep the power on while doing this

I'll give it a go tomorrow. Yea it doesn't have too far to pump upwards less than a meter that's why it's strange. Thanks for your help ger I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi Alan I have this model filter too and from experience I suggest that you disconnect the filter and empty water into bucket / take out the 3 trays and then replace the 3 trays making sure that they are put back in correctly aligned / fill the filter canister with aquarium or the bucket water just above the level of the coarse blue filter ( 1/2 inch) and replace the filter lid in its proper position and connect it to the aquarium making sure that the flow lever is fully open (Flow lever is pressed to left hand side) then plug it in and press the bleed button a few times until you see water starting to be pumped into the aquarium and the filter pump will do the rest. Alan make sure that your pump impeller is fully locked in to its housing .My aquarium is a 125 Ltrs 80 percent planted and a full length spraybar. Derek

I got it sorted. I realised that the glow I was getting was just from the syphon effect when I lowered the outlet below the level of the tank. Figured it had to be a power issue. It has a 2 prong plug on it and the adaptor was faulty. Plugged it in through another and hey presto worked straight away. Many thanks for your help guys.
