Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Faulty light was created by wlash (Tom)
Hi there,

Having light problems :(

The back light on my hood isnt working. The bulb is ok and ive had a electrician friend look at it who believes the bulb connectors are the issue.

Would anyone know where I could replace the connectors? Should be able to do a fix job and if I could get two suitable connections.

If anyone has such parts please let me know. The tank just isnt the same without my back blue moon light.

Thanks for any advice!

If your picture(s) are larger than 1 mb the Forum system will reject them.
Here's the link to Valerie's tutorial on the subject:

I'm afraid I can't help you with the light issue, but perhaps it might help anyone who could help if you could quote the type of hood you have as different makes have different fitments.

Here is a link to Colin's article on Juwel light problems - unfortunately the pictures have been removed by the author, but it's still pretty self-explanatory.

Hope that helps somewhat.

Thanks John got the pics up. Unfortunately the tank and hood doesnt have a brand marking on it from what I can see. Readers might recognise it maybe but its quite old presumably.

You can buy replacement connectors on eBay, like these : www.ebay.ie/itm/10x-AC100-250V-50-60Hz-T...&hash=item280357a1a8

This cover looks like either Diversa or Wromak, both Polish producers. There is 2 magnetic ballasts inside(pretty obsolete technology at the moment), one of them might be gone. Before u go looking for new one check the starter tho. It's that white screw on cap on the side of black mold. There is small plastic device inside called starter, give it half a turn before pulling out Try to replace both of them. U can get them in B&Q like shops

I think its a Diversa alright, I know the tank is 240L anyway so that would make sense.

Thanks Bart, will check the starters in case they are not working.

You could replace with an LED that fits in the T8 or T5 holder

so....got my hands on new connectors and fitted them but it still doesnt light up.....through a process of elimination I can see that the starter also isnt the problem...which means it must be one of the transformers presumably....

the struggle continues!

My lights went as well. I will be ordering LED bar from ebay, if you want to share shipping? It's from Germany. I got one to test it and it's perfect but need second.

I got an aqualantis easy led and controller for my vision 180 €190 for both. This is a planted tank so I wanted something suitable for plants.

They seem solidly built and I reckon they will pay for themselves in half the electricity and not having to buy T5s every year.

Very easy to fit just pop out the tube and stick in the LED.

The controller is basic it ramps up and down an hour and has two on/off times.
