60 litre tank but no lid or light???
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

What about leaving it as an open top with one of those Arcadia pod lights?

hi gerry
i allways use sheets of WBP(warp and burn proof) for lids on the tanks that i build
you can get it in any of the builder providers and paint it whatever colour u want
cut the sheet in half down the lenght and fit a piano hinge to it for access
you can also screw ure light unit to it
rgds

Thats a good idea cjackson, i wouldnt mind having no lid i suppose, i just done a quick google search as i never heard of them before and they seem the business.:)About £18 on ebay.
@Mossy, Yeah thats wat i was planning to do but wasnt sure if i could jus buy a light unit, the tank is so small it would only need one bulb but it would do as a small breeding tank or quarantine tank

You'll get a bit more evaporation than if you had a lid, but a few top ups every now and then will be no major hassle. I got a clip on bedside LED reading lamp from Ikea recently - I wonder if one or two of those would work on a set up like you have? Could get a nice mix of blue and white light depending on what you have in the tank, wouldn't fancy it for growing plants though. Let us know what you decide on and post some pics when you are up and running with it.

Nice. For 18 euro you'd get one of these:
www.ikea.com/ie/en/catalog/products/50128708 the LED will give you a nice shimmer effect too. But, it would only be useful for viewing fish, and might be a bit too blue. I can't find them on the site but I've supplemented the lighting on my fluval edge with the two hanging Ikea LEDs (Plack or Plank or Plak or something). They look great and don't take from the look of the tank at all.
