Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

the first thing i do with a juwel tank is remove the filter, although if the tank is lightly stocked and you are regularly cleaning the impeller, it should do the job
it used to happen all the time when i worked in wackers, an unhappy customer would come in saying the filter is knackered, i'd plug it in, the return flow almost non-excistent, dribbling out of the filter,
out with the impeller, a good rinse and a quick clean, back into the filter and hey presto, back to its former glory
used to amaze me how many times a week this would happen, granted, they wouldn't be forum heads...
those prices you got on the net seem very good, i wouldn't use tetratec myself anymore, two tetratec filters leaked on me
the best prices i've seen around lately for externals are in maidenhead, carlow
hope this helps
Des

Gerry,
Any Forum is only as good as the active members make it.
We get days with 20 plus people sign in at any given time, but very few actually participate by adding a post.
A pity, but that's the way of things.

Eheim Externals are the Mac daddy when it comes to silence and efficiency, Dave aka acara got me one some months back and although I am a Fluval Fan, I have to admit they are my favourite now, this Filter is strong, no flimsy bits, everything is typically rugged German construction and I cannot hear it and it was very reasonable too.
Kev.
I must agree with you, been a fan of Eheims ever since I bought my first one quite a long time ago...I have others, but would always buy Eheim given the opportunity. (Non-Eheims were all bought secondhand).

I have had it up and running for a few months now and just wanted to add that I'm very happy with it so far, it's silent and does the job.
Of course you can´t go wrong with Eheim but the price made the difference for me.

@ Melander yeah must be the same website how long did yours take to arrive? I heard there was a bit of trouble with the tetratec but i think that was the old model.
@ John Yeah there should be a bit more interest now with the photo comp, maybe you should send a group email around to everyone to let everyone know its going on...?

I've got a bunch of Tetratecs - all silent, do a great job, never a moments hassle with them. I'm looking at getting one more external and I'll be going with a tetratec.
On the fluvals - I've only got a Fluval 305 - I dont think its as good as the tetratecs, don't like the way it releases the water pressure during maintenance by splashing water everywhere and it was never as quiet as the tetratecs.
