Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I got a a filter and had to send it back.
re Local LFS, the lfs price was twice the Zooplus site amount, thats a serious difference I was willing to wait on, postage n all for sending it back was still way cheaper. Besides what self repeccting fishkeeper doesn't have a spare filter at this stage when second hand ones go for buttons.

If you're going to be crazy, you have to get paid for it or else you're going to be locked up.

i've just returned an item i bought from ebay, off a uk aquatics supplier - hagen glo 2x54w t5 ballast. couldn't find any shops here that did twin t5 ballasts for the price, but maidenshead did do them for around 50% more cost.
my god i will NEVER do this again. the ballast was new but faulty and it cost me another 15euro to send it back via registered post, which has now cost me 5euro less than taking the trip to carlow and that doesn't include the packing cost (and the hassle)
so now i'm pee'd off with internet shopping and this has proven my usual distrust in internet shopping. sorry maidenshead i should have gone to ye, i will use lfs now for pretty much all my shoppiing if there is only a few yoyo's in the price difference. screw ebay. i'd only get food from zooplus so cant see how it'd be faulty or need to be returned (unless you accidentally order the wrong stuff or your fish die and dont need food anymore)
sorry for the waffle, just pee'd off today

Thanks for the replys lads, Iv never met a person that buys everything off the internet anyways but in my opinion if i save 70 euro on a filter because i bought it on the net then id end up buyin more fish in a Lfs anyway so it evens things out and everyone's happy, Well usually everyone's happy with me being the exception because iv to return the filter
As you know Gerry I buy all my fish in our LFS. Buying fish online and having them posted to you, well, it is worse than buying a filter online, as the fish are obviously living and not as durable when it comes ot bad handling and storage ect.
Never buy fish online is my advice anyways.
Zooplus, sent my filter back and had a new one in a few days:) No bod but if you only got one filter and need it replaced asap if it goes, buy local.

It took six months to resolve the problem + postage.
I ended up buying a filter locally just to replace the leaking one.

Usually, if you tell zooplus or whoever that you're going to do this, they cut the crap straightaway.
